State to observe ‘Desh Nayak Diwas’ on January 23: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, 04th January: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been time and again urging the Centre to declare January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as a national holiday.

On Monday too, she raised the same demand and stated that she assumes no important work has been done for the freedom fighter after independence. In addition to this, the state will reportedly be absorbing January 23 as ‘Desh Nayak Diwas’ to commemorate Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

As per the report, on January 23, a rally will be taken out from Shyambazar to Netaji Statue in Kolkata at 12:15 pm, along with the police band. A tableau will also be displayed on the theme based on Netaji’s life on January 26.

Subhas Chandra Bose, affectionately called as Netaji, was one of the most prominent leaders of Indian freedom struggle. He was the President of Indian National Congress (INC) from 1938 to 1939. He attempted to get rid of British rule in India during World War II with the help of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.
