Siliguri, 22nd September: Siliguri Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bir Bikram Rai inspected garbage cleaning work across several areas of the city on Tuesday morning. He visited Sevoke Road, Haiderpara and other areas to review the work being carried out by municipal staff.
During the inspection, the Commissioner expressed displeasure after noticing negligence and absence of employees at some locations. At Haiderpara, he also took stock of the situation in the concerned ward. As the officer of Borough 05 was absent during the inspection, the Commissioner directed that a show-cause notice be issued to him.
Meanwhile, garbage and waste were found lying in an area along Sevoke Road. The concerned ward supervisor is also likely to face a fine over the issue.
The Commissioner also noticed illegal hoardings and advertisements at several locations along Sevoke Road. It was alleged that the illegal hoardings were resulting in revenue loss for the municipal corporation. He expressed displeasure over the role of employees in the advertising department in this regard.
During the inspection, an employee of the advertising department was also allegedly found in an inebriated state. After the matter came to the Commissioner’s notice, the employee was removed from the spot. The Commissioner warned that appropriate action would be taken against the employee.
