Siliguri, 21st September: An ambulance carrying a patient to a hospital ran out of petrol near Darjeeling More on Monday morning, prompting traffic police on duty to step in and arrange another ambulance to ensure the patient reached the hospital on time.
According to information, the ambulance was carrying a patient from a private hospital in Matigara towards Siliguri when it ran out of petrol near Darjeeling More. The ambulance was forced to stop by the roadside with the patient inside.
Traffic police personnel deployed at Darjeeling More noticed the ambulance standing there for a considerable period and immediately approached the vehicle. After speaking to the driver and learning about the situation, the police took prompt steps to arrange another ambulance, considering the condition of the patient.
A second ambulance soon reached the spot, and the patient was transferred before being taken to the hospital on time.
The incident has, however, raised concerns about the preparedness and responsibility of vehicles providing essential medical services. An ambulance running out of fuel while transporting a patient could pose a serious risk, particularly when immediate medical attention is required.
