Darjeeling: Manipal Hospitals Siliguri & Rangapani, in association with the All India Women’s Conference (AIWC), Darjeeling Branch, organised a General Health Check-up and Cancer Screening Camp in Darjeeling to promote preventive healthcare and encourage timely health screening among residents of the Darjeeling hills.
The camp brought together specialists from General Surgery, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Cancer Care, providing residents access to consultations and screening services under one programme.
Speaking on the initiative, Wing Commander Dr Biplab Bhattarai, Medical Head, Manipal Hospitals Siliguri & Rangapani, said, “Preventive healthcare plays an important role in helping communities identify health concerns at an early stage. Bringing healthcare services closer to people can encourage them to seek timely medical advice and make regular health check-ups a part of their routine. Through initiatives such as this camp, we aim to strengthen health awareness and make specialised medical guidance more accessible to communities in the region.”
He further said, “Cancer remains an important health concern, and delayed diagnosis continues to be one of the challenges in cancer care. Screening and awareness can help identify certain cancers at an earlier stage, when timely evaluation and treatment may make a meaningful difference. Through this initiative, we hope to encourage residents to understand the importance of regular screening, recognise potential warning signs and seek medical advice without delay. Community-based initiatives like these can help improve awareness and strengthen access to specialised healthcare.”
The participation of specialists from multiple disciplines also enabled residents to seek medical guidance for a range of health concerns. The camp focused on the importance of regular health check-ups, preventive screening and timely consultation, particularly for conditions that may not show noticeable symptoms in the early stages.
The initiative provided an opportunity for residents of the Darjeeling hills to access specialised healthcare expertise closer to their community. It also reinforced the importance of preventive healthcare and early medical evaluation in supporting better health outcomes.
