SMC authorities swing into action against hawkers and vendors encroaching footpath, streets near Baghajatin Park

Siliguri, 05th October: Siliguri Municipal Corporation authorities, on Tuesday, took strict action against hawkers and vendors encroaching footpaths and streets near Siliguri’s Baghajatin Park. From now on, SMC will reportedly arrive with a car fitted with a hooter alarm as soon as it notices illegal encroachments. Fines will also be imposed.


The governing body of Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken the said initiative to reduce traffic congestion in the city. BoA member Ranjan Sarkar and Manik Dey were present in the campaign.

In addition, they removed the construction materials that were lying across the streets in College Para. Besides, the promoter of an apartment was fined Rs 5,000 on behalf of SMC. Ranjan Sarkar said that this campaign will continue during Durga Puja.
