Siliguri, 22nd November: In a significant leap towards advancing transportation across the city, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has initiated the construction work of expanding Burdwan Road on both sides. Significantly, the redevelopment of the road will conclude within eight months with an estimated budget of approximately Rs 10 crore.
According to reports, the road is being enlarged on both sides from the new Burdwan Road flyover to the Tinbatti More. The development of the road aims to relieve traffic congestion with the rise in the number of vehicles in the city. The PWD has been engaged in the construction work near Jalpaimore. On Wednesday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar visited the road construction site and inspected the nearby locations.
In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb explained that the road will be extended by 12 feet on both sides with paver blocks to pave the road. In the meantime, the market next to Jalpaimore will be eliminated. The Mayor assured discussing the matter with the businessmen of the stores in the market and finding an alternative arrangement. In addition, the Mayor stated that SF Road will also be enlarged at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
