Siliguri, 14th October: The Nabankur Sangha & Library Durga Puja Committee in Siliguri’s Pradhan Nagar area had to relocate its puja venue at the last minute following a land dispute and a stay order issued by the Supreme Court. The pandal, which had already been constructed at the original site, was dismantled following the court’s order.
The committee is now preparing to organise the Durga Puja at a new location, with pandal construction and other arrangements underway.
The committee has been organising Durga Puja at the original site for the past 51 years, with this year marking the beginning of its 52nd year. As in previous years, preparations had begun after the ‘Khutti Puja’, and the pandal was scheduled to be inaugurated on Tritiya.
However, the ongoing land dispute disrupted the preparations. The matter had previously reached the Calcutta High Court, following which the landowners challenged the verdict before the Supreme Court. After the apex court issued a stay order on October 9, the committee was compelled to dismantle the pandal at the original venue.
Despite the challenges of shifting the puja arrangements at such short notice, the committee has decided to continue the celebrations at a new location. Meanwhile, the committee has expressed displeasure over the dismantling of the pandal that had already been set up at the original site.
