Siliguri, 14th October: The CITU Darjeeling District Construction Workers’ Union staged a protest on Wednesday in front of an under-construction multi-storey building, demanding compensation and financial assistance for the family of a worker who died after falling while working at the site.
It is to be noted that the incident took place on 26th September in the Haiderpara area of Siliguri. The worker reportedly died after falling while working at the under-construction building. Protesters alleged that adequate safety measures were not in place at the site at the time of the incident, raising concerns over the safety of construction workers.
According to the CITU Darjeeling District Construction Workers’ Union, the building’s owners have not yet provided financial assistance to the deceased worker’s family, leaving them facing financial uncertainty.
Along with compensation and financial assistance for the family, the union demanded proper safety arrangements at construction sites and the implementation of necessary protective measures for workers.
The protesters called on the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to ensure construction workers’ safety and provide financial security to the families of workers who die on the job.
