Siliguri, 09th July: Governor R.N. Ravi held a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of 20 universities of the state at the administrative building of the University of North Bengal (NBU) to review the higher education infrastructure and challenges.
Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of several universities, including Aliah University, Alipurduar University, Bankura University, Biswa Bangla University, Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, Dakshin Dinajpur University, Darjeeling Hills University, Diamond Harbour Women’s University, Gour Banga University, Harichand Guruchand University, Hindi University, Kanyashree University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Murshidabad Maharaja Krishnanath University, Raiganj University, Rani Rashmoni Green University, Sadhu Ram Chandra Murmu University, Sanskrit College and University, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, and Netaji Subhas Open University attended the meeting.
Although the meeting was held at NBU, no representative from the university attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellors highlighted various issues faced by universities, including the existing condition of institutions, administrative challenges, infrastructure development, vacant posts such as Registrar and Finance Officer, and the requirement for faculty recruitment.
The Governor advised Vice-Chancellors to focus on conducting annual convocation ceremonies, increasing universities’ own revenue generation, promoting skill development initiatives, and introducing certificate courses.
Governor R.N. Ravi also assured that he would visit universities personally and work towards addressing their issues. However, the Governor did not make any comment regarding the meeting.
