River embankment collapses within two months of its construction in Rajganj, residents raise questions on work quality

Rajganj, 31st May: After the embankment of the Rajganj’s Karotoya river collapsed within two months of its construction, the residents of the area raised questions about the quality of work. The incident surfaced from the Subhash Palli area of Sukhani Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block.

Reportedly, the demand for an erosion prevention embankment in the Karatoya river was being presented for a long time. The Irrigation Department constructed a 500-meter dam around two months ago under the initiative of Gram Panchayat Authority at a cost of around 1 crore 34 lakh rupees. However, questions have been raised about the quality after the embankment collapsed within two months.

Locals said it has been less than two months since the embankment was built. It collapsed even before the arrival of monsoons. Apart from demanding immediate repair of the dam, they have also demanded an investigation into the construction work.

Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sampa Dutta said that she went on an inspection after receiving complaints from the residents. The matter has been reported to the Irrigation Department.
