BJP leader and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista was adjudged the “Icon” for the year 2020. The results of the survey jointly conducted by the Asia Post and Fame India Magazine picked Bista as the icon on the basis of his performance in the parliament. The 25 MPs were identified based on their contribution in strengthening the democratic values of the country ranging from public service, social service, public awareness to development in their respective constituency.

In this survey, the MPs’ public engagement, influence, image, identity, style, presence in the house, participation in debates, private bill, questions in the house, the right use of MP funds and social participation were considered as the main criteria.
“This honour is a vindication of the choice made by people from Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency in electing me as their Member of Parliament. From day one of my election, I have worked with utmost sincerity, dedication and honesty to resolve issues that have plagued our region and people for decades. This recognition is simply an acknowledgement of the efforts I have put in,” Bista said.
He further dedicated the honour to the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars. “This recognition inspires me to work harder for our region and people, they can rest assured that I will fulfill all the promises I have made to them,” he added.
