Rajganj, 21st March: MLA Khageswar Roy laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new bridge over the Chaoi River in Rajganj.
On Friday, the foundation stone was laid for the bridge, which will connect Sukhani and Chaulhati Gram Panchayats near the India-Bangladesh border in Rajganj block.
According to reports, the bridge will be built by the West Bengal State Rural Development Agency (WBSRDA) at an estimated cost of ₹7.5 crore. The foundation stone laying event was attended by Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad member Uttara Barman, Rajganj Panchayat Samiti President Rupali Dey Sarkar, Rajganj Block Trinamool Congress President Arindam Banerjee, Sukhani Gram Panchayat Upa Pradhan Israel Haque, Farzan Ali, and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Khageswar Roy stated that the existing bridge over the Chaoi River on the border had become dilapidated, causing severe inconvenience to the residents. Commuting, especially after evening, had become nearly impossible.
The MLA added that the locals had been demanding a new bridge for a long time, and with the foundation stone now laid, their request is finally being fulfilled.
