Police constable killed in elephant attack while on leave in Alipurduar

Alipurduar, 12th January: A police constable from Darjeeling tragically lost his life in an elephant attack in the Dakshin Latabari area of Alipurduar district. The deceased, identified as Sintu Tigga, was on leave and had recently returned to his home.


The incident occurred earlier on Sunday when an elephant strayed into the area from the Buxa forest and wreaked havoc. Upon hearing about the elephant’s arrival, Sintu Tigga, along with his two brothers and a nephew, went outside to drive the animal away. As the elephant moved towards their nut plantation, the animal began charging at them. While other family members managed to flee, Sintu Tigga was attacked and fatally injured by the elephant.

The death of Sintu Tigga sent shockwaves through the area. Local police were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene, where they recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
