Bagdogra, 01st November: A man was arrested by Bidhannagar Police in Bagdogra for allegedly cheating a woman from Kolkata out of her gold jewellery on the pretext of helping her secure a loan.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Debashis Nag, a resident of Abhiram Jote in Bagdogra. He reportedly owns a restaurant in the Hanskhawa area of Bagdogra.
Police sources said Nag had developed a relationship with the woman, who works as a floor artist, and the two frequently met at different locations, including City Centre in Kolkata. He allegedly promised to help her obtain a loan but instead took her gold jewellery and fled.
The victim lodged a formal complaint against Nag at Bidhannagar Police Station on the 10th of last month. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and, with the assistance of Bagdogra Police, arrested the accused from his residence early Sunday morning.
Following his arrest, Bidhannagar Police took Nag into custody on transit remand and are taking him to Kolkata for further legal proceedings.
