PM Modi addresses the nation on COVID-19 situation

Nation’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, addressed the nation on the COVID-19 situation. This is his fifth address to the nation since the coronavirus outbreak.


Here are the highlights of PM Modi’s address: 

1. Never give up – PM Modi said that although one virus has destroyed the world, infecting more than 42 lakh people, however, the nation will not give up or accept defeat.


2. Tragedy to Opportunity – “Before the outbreak, we didn’t have PPE or enough N95 masks, now we have at least 2 lakh of protective equipments,” the PM said. He lauded the country’s effort on turning the tragedy into an opportunity.

3. Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan – PM announced a special economic package of Rs 20 Lakh Crores. This is 10% of India’s GDP.

4. The 5 pillars of Self-reliant – PM Modi also mentioned the five pillar formula for a self-reliant India. First is Economy that is incremental change and not quantum jump. The second is Infrastructure. The third is Tech-driven System. The fourth pillar is our vibrant Democracy and the fifth pillar is our economic Demand.

5. Lockdown 4.0 – PM Modi announced that Lockdown 4.0 will continue beyond May 17 and will be different and have new rules. He maintained that its details will be issued before May 18.

6. Vocal for local – the PM stated that the local suppliers have met the demands of the nation during such a crisis and every citizens should now be ‘vocal for local’ and buy locally made products.
