Patient’s death sparks tension at Naxalbari Rural Hospital, allegations of medical negligence surface

Naxalbari, 13th June: Tension gripped Naxalbari Rural Hospital following the death of a patient, with family members alleging medical negligence. The deceased, identified as 27-year-old Subir Lakra of Bijoynagar Tea Garden, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday morning with dysentery and fever. He reportedly died without receiving proper treatment.


Subir’s brother, Pritam Lakra, claimed the family was harassed and denied timely care. In response, relatives gathered at the hospital, staging a protest and demanding immediate investigation and action against the responsible medical staff.

The situation escalated until Naxalbari police and the block health officer arrived at the scene. The protest was eventually called off following their intervention and assurances.


Meanwhile, Subir’s mother has lodged a formal complaint against the on-duty doctor. BMOH Dr. Kuntal Ghosh stated that the matter is under investigation and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy.

On Friday, the body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their probe into the incident.
