Bagdogra, 14th April: In a significant boost ahead of the elections, 30 individuals joined the Trinamool Congress-affiliated Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) in Bagdogra, indicating a shift in local labour dynamics.
The development is seen as a setback to the Congress and CITU, as the induction took place just days before the polls. The programme was held on Tuesday at the Taxi Drivers and Owners’ Association at Bagdogra Airport on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar before the formal induction ceremony. The new entrants, led by Sunil Gurung, president of the Congress-supported Bagdogra branch, joined the INTTUC.
INTTUC Darjeeling district president Nirjal Dey handed over the organisation’s flag to the new members and stated that the induction would further strengthen the union ahead of the elections.
Sunil Gurung said that the INTTUC stands by workers during times of crisis and expressed optimism about working collectively for the welfare of the organisation in the future.
