Bagdogra, 27th May: Political tension has surfaced in Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat under Siliguri sub-division after dissident Trinamool Congress members and Congress panchayat members jointly moved a no-confidence motion against the TMC-led board.
According to reports, 13 panchayat members moved the no-confidence motion before the Naxalbari BDO on 25th May.
The 21-seat Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat had earlier seen Trinamool Congress win 11 seats, Congress secure 7 seats, BJP win 2 seats and Adivasi Vikas Parishad win 1 seat. TMC’s Sanjib Sinha became the Pradhan after the party secured majority support.
Dissident TMC panchayat member Kulbhushan Sharma alleged that the Pradhan had failed to carry out developmental work, and therefore members united beyond party lines to remove him. He, however, stated that time would tell whether going against the party was the correct decision.
Congress panchayat member and opposition leader Laxmi Thapa echoed similar views, alleging lack of work by the pradhan. She said the no-confidence motion was jointly moved by six TMC members and seven Congress members.
Meanwhile, Pradhan Sanjib Sinha claimed he was unaware of the no-confidence motion and said he did not know who moved it or for what reason.
