Bagdogra, 16th July: A major development has emerged in the case involving the recovery of a body with the head separated in Bagdogra, with police arresting five people, including the deceased’s wife.
According to police investigation, the incident is suspected to be linked to an extramarital relationship. Police alleged that the man was killed and the head was separated from the body in an attempt to conceal his identity.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when tea workers found the body while plucking tea leaves at Section No. 9 of Hansqua Tea Estate in Bagdogra. Bagdogra police recovered the decapitated body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
During the investigation, police arrested five accused persons, the deceased’s wife Mamina Begum, her alleged lover Sudip Pal, his two nephews Nitai Pal and Bapi Pal, and nephew’s friend Kaushik Nath. Sudip Pal is a resident of Bagdogra, while Nitai Pal, Bapi Pal and Kaushik Nath are residents of Jalpaiguri.
Police sources said Mamina Begum was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship for the past seven years and a plan was allegedly made to kill her husband. Police further stated that Imam was brought from Kishanganj in Bihar to Bagdogra with the help of Sudip Pal.
The deceased, Imam, was a tantric by profession and had developed a friendship with Sudip Pal, who is also a tantric from Bagdogra. Police said Sudip called Imam from Kishanganj on Monday evening, after which he was allegedly attacked.
The five accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday. Meanwhile, the victim’s separated head was recovered from the Munshibari area of Phansidewa, around 5 km from the crime scene. Police are investigating whether the recovered part belongs to the deceased.
