Siliguri, 04th October: A man was found dead on the railway tracks in Siliguri late Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Guha, a resident of New Milanpally, Siliguri.
The NJP Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered the body and took possession of it before sending it for post-mortem examination. Guha is survived by his wife and 14-year-old daughter.
According to a friend of the deceased, Guha had been under mental stress for some time over a land dispute dating back to 2008. The friend alleged that certain individuals had been repeatedly harassing him over possession of the land.
The friend further claimed that Guha took the extreme step due to the alleged mental pressure. It has also been reported that Guha had written a note before his death, allegedly mentioning the land dispute and mental harassment.
No written complaint has been filed in connection with the case so far. Police are investigating the matter and examining all possible aspects.
