Siliguri, 06th October: NJP GRP, along with the Siliguri GRP Special Operations Group (SOG), recovered around 35 kg of cannabis during a joint operation at NJP Railway Station.
Acting on a tip-off about cannabis being smuggled by train, the SOG and NJP GRP launched a search operation at the station. After the Down Rani Kamalapati Express arriving from Agartala reached Platform No. 06, police searched the S-2 sleeper coach.
During the search, police recovered two suspicious bags from the coach. A search of the bags led to the recovery of 14 packets containing cannabis, with the total weight estimated at around 35 kg.
According to police, those allegedly involved in the smuggling fled from the spot after getting wind of the operation. No arrests have been made so far.
The GRP is continuing its investigation into the matter.
