Newly repaired road in Kharibari gets damaged; locals allege use of subpar materials in road reform

Kharibari, 03rd March: Residents of the Jaigir Jote area of Kharibari’s Panishali Gram Panchayat have expressed their dissatisfaction over the poorly made road constructed under the initiative of the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad. Reportedly, despite recent repairs, the road’s pitch has been crumbling apart within a day of construction.

According to estimates, the road was built from Jaigir Jote to the Bihar border at a budget of Rs 7,47,000. Meanwhile, within a day of the road’s construction, the pitch began to crumble. Locals stated that the road was built with the use of substandard materials.

In this context, Kharibari-Buraganj BJP President Kalyan Kumar Prasad claimed that, like the state administration, the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad is allegedly corrupt. He added that the road was initially unpaved and was constructed in an attempt of alleged extortion.

Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Officer Kishori Mohan Singh arrived at the scene and reported that the residents were complaining about the poor quality of work for the construction of the road. He stated that the engineers from the Mahakuma Parishad would look into the situation and claimed that it was not a matter of financial misappropriation.
