Siliguri, 12th May: Members of the North Bengal State Transport Workers’ Union staged a sit-in protest at the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) depot in Siliguri on Monday, demanding a long-pending salary hike.
According to the workers, while the salaries of drivers have been revised, other employees have been left out of the hike. They claimed that the lack of salary increment over an extended period has led to growing financial hardship.
As a result of the protest, bus services were partially disrupted in Siliguri, causing inconvenience to commuters. Union members warned that if their demands are not addressed, they will escalate the agitation into a larger movement in the coming days.
