Bagdogra, 10th July: A man was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) bus at Bihar More in Bagdogra on Friday. The incident triggered panic in the area.
According to reports, the NBSTC bus was travelling from Islampur towards Siliguri when it allegedly developed a mechanical issue near the entrance of Bagdogra Bihar More. A loud sound reportedly came from the bus, following which the driver lost control and the vehicle started moving erratically on the road.
While taking a turn at Bihar More, the bus allegedly hit a pedestrian crossing the road before crashing into a pillar of the flyover. The man died on the spot.
Several passengers travelling on the bus also sustained injuries in the incident. The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed.
After receiving information, personnel from Bagdogra Police Station and Bagdogra Traffic Guard reached the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
The damaged bus was later taken to the police station with the help of a crane. The driver and conductor reportedly fled from the spot. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
