Naxalbari Bazar Fire: Mayor, public representatives took stock of the site

Naxalbari, 16th October: Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb and other public representatives took stock of the site of the Naxalbari fire incident. Earlier, tension gripped traders following a massive fire that engulfed Naxalbari Bazar, on Sunday night, ahead of Durga Puja.


The incident brought down several stores of Naxalbari Bazar to ashes. The businessmen of the market estimated a loss amounting to approximately Rs 6 crore. In this regard, the traders had demanded for government’s assistance.

Following the incident, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh arrived at the spot. The Sabhadhipati, while terming the incident to be disheartening, assured that financial assistance would be provided. He added the District Magistrate (DM) and State Government were already informed about the matter.


As per reports, on Monday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb arrived at the site and took stock of the situation. After meeting the aggrieved traders, the Mayor stated that the matter had been informed to the Chief Minister (CM). He added that discussion will be held with the affected businessmen and all possible assistance will be provided. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) District President Arun Mandal, former MLA Shankar Malakar, Darjeeling District TMC President Papiya Ghosh, and other leaders also visited the site of the incident.
