Siliguri, 23rd September: Mid-day meal helper workers from various schools staged a protest at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Wednesday morning, alleging that they have not been receiving their monthly honorarium regularly for the past several months.
The workers alleged that they have not been paid the full amount of their fixed monthly honorarium for a long period and are currently receiving only one-fourth of the amount.
According to the protesting workers, managing household expenses with the limited amount has become extremely difficult. They also alleged that following the change in government, they have been assigned various additional duties, but no remuneration or additional honorarium has been provided for those tasks so far.
Demanding the immediate release of all outstanding honorarium payments, the mid-day meal helpers staged the protest on Wednesday morning. They later submitted a written complaint to officials of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
The workers urged the authorities to take necessary steps to ensure that their entitled honorarium is paid regularly and on time as per government directives.
