Siliguri, 23rd September: Manipal Hospital Siliguri has launched its dedicated Height Clinic for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age with concerns related to height and growth. The clinic brings together paediatric and endocrinology expertise for detailed growth assessment, identification of underlying concerns and personalised management.
The clinic will be led by Dr Ajit Chhetri, Senior Consultant – Paediatrics, and Dr Ananda Mohan Chakraborty, Consultant – Endocrinologist, at Manipal Hospital Siliguri. The two specialists will jointly assess children with growth-related concerns and determine the appropriate course of care.
The Height Clinic will be available from Monday to Friday, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age.
The clinic will provide comprehensive assessment of growth patterns, including measurement and tracking of height and weight, evaluation of growth velocity and bone age, and investigations into possible hormonal or other underlying causes. Where clinically indicated, children may also undergo hormonal investigations, growth hormone stimulation testing or genetic evaluation.
Speaking about the launch, Dr Ajit Chhetri said that parents often approach doctors with concerns about their child’s height and whether their growth is progressing according to age. He said the availability of an endocrinologist as part of the Height Clinic would enable comprehensive assessment and appropriate treatment for children with growth-related concerns.
Dr Ananda Mohan Chakraborty said a child’s height at a particular age does not provide a complete picture of their growth and that growth over time and growth velocity are important factors to assess. He noted that while some children may be shorter than their peers and still be growing normally, slowed or plateaued growth may require further evaluation.
Growth concerns may arise from hormonal deficiencies, familial short stature, delayed growth and puberty, chronic illnesses or genetic conditions. Parents have been advised to seek assessment if a child is consistently shorter than peers, shows slowed or unexpected growth, has delayed puberty or has not achieved catch-up growth after being born small for gestational age.
The launch of the Height Clinic is aimed at providing families with coordinated access to paediatric and endocrinology expertise for growth-related concerns under one roof.
