Matigara, 31st August: Matigara Police have arrested an alleged land mafia member for allegedly grabbing land belonging to a deceased man using forged documents and fake signatures. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Jalaluddin Ansari. A case has been registered against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The case concerns land belonging to deceased Ratan Kumar Sunar. According to a complaint filed by his wife, Seema Sunar, Ratan Kumar Sunar owned land in Khopalasi Mouza. He died on March 23, 2023, after which his wife Seema and their daughter became the legal heirs to the property.
According to the complaint, Seema visited the land on June 10, 2026, and discovered that it had allegedly been sold to a third party. She subsequently checked the land documents and records, following which details of the alleged transfer came to light.
It is alleged that Ratan Kumar Sunar’s identity was misused and his signature was forged to prepare a sale deed and attempt to transfer the land in the name of Mohammad Jalaluddin Ansari. The complainant alleged that documents were processed by showing the deceased as still alive with the intention of grabbing the land.
Seema Sunar lodged a written complaint at Matigara Police Station on June 16, 2026. Complaints were also submitted to the BL&LRO office and the ADSR Bagdogra office. A case was also filed at the Siliguri court.
During the investigation, Matigara Police arrested Mohammad Jalaluddin Ansari on Sunday. Police produced the accused before the Siliguri court on Monday and sought his remand.
Police are investigating the matter and trying to identify others who may have been involved in preparing the alleged forged documents and the process of transferring the land.
