Fulbari, 28th May: A tragic incident unfolded where an individual lost his life due to drowning while bathing at Teesta Canal in Kanchenbari area of Fulbari, adjacent to Siliguri. The deceased, identified as Ganesh Sarkar (35), is stated to be a resident of Jayanagar Colony, located in Purba Dhantala under Fulbari II Gram Panchayat (GP).
According to family and local sources, the tragedy struck on Tuesday afternoon as Ganesh Sarkar ventured to the Teesta Canal in Fulbari for a bath. However, the leisurely activity turned fatal as he was swept away by the strong water current of Teesta. Upon receiving the news, the police of NJP police station arrived at the spot.
Significantly, after combined efforts by police and local residents, the lifeless body was successfully recovered approximately two hours after the incident. Subsequently, the deceased body was transferred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
