Siliguri, 30th December: A man was taken into custody on charges of abduction and sexual assault of a minor. The arrested accused has been identified as Uttam Bhawal, a resident of Jalpaiguri.
According to reports, on December 23, a 15-year-old girl went missing from Siliguri’s Bhakti Nagar area. Following this, the family members initiated a search for the minor, however she was untraced. Subsequently, the family filed a written complaint of abduction at the Bhakti Nagar police station. Immediately, an investigation was launched by the police.
During the investigation, the police gained information that the minor was spotted with an individual named Uttam Bhawal. Promptly, the police started a hunt for Uttam. Significantly, further investigation by police indicated that Uttam took the minor to Jalpaiguri. Following this, the police team was prepared to leave for Jalpaiguri.
However, on December 28 night, the police received a tip-off stating the minor’s presence in the area under Panitanki Outpost. Following this, the minor was rescued. Meanwhile, after interrogating the minor, Uttam Bhawal was arrested on charges of abduction and sexual assault.
On Saturday, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court, while, the police are engaged in further investigation.
