Siliguri, 14th August: The residents of Ward No. 47 staged a protest alleging that the Panchanan River bridge has been lying in a dilapidated condition for the past few years. Therefore, they demanded immediate repair of the bridge and also submitted a memorandum to the SDO in this regard.
Subal Chowdhury, a local, alleged that although construction work of the bridge started initially, it was stopped mid-way following which a temporary bridge was built as an alternative measure.
However, as the condition of the temporary bridge is degrading with every passing day, locals fear the bridge might lead to several accidents in the area.
