Jalpaiguri, 23rd June: The Jalpaiguri District Police on Monday felicitated Raju Roy and his family for their vital role in helping foil an ATM robbery in Maynaguri earlier this month. District police officers involved in the investigation were also honoured during the event.
The incident occurred on the night of 14th June, when miscreants looted ₹54 lakh from an ATM in Boulbari, Maynaguri. Upon witnessing the criminals fleeing, the Roy family immediately informed the police by dialling 100. They also chased the robbers’ car and captured a video of the vehicle, which proved crucial in tracking down the culprits.
Using the footage and the vehicle number, police launched a joint operation involving the Jalpaiguri District Police, Siliguri Police Commissionerate, and Baikunthapur Forest Department. The coordinated effort led to the arrest of four suspects.
Raju Roy, who is a bank employee, was specially acknowledged for promptly sharing the video and assisting the police. Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat praised the Roy family’s alertness and also lauded the efforts of the police teams who searched the Baikunthapur forest to apprehend the robbers.
