Jalpaiguri Correctional Home inmate serving life imprisonment tested positive for COVID-19

Jalpaiguri, 06th June: An inmate serving life imprisonment in the Jalpaiguri Kendriya Sansodhanagar (Central Correctional Home) tested positive for novel coronavirus.


According to the health department, the inmate was admitted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital on May 13 following a physical illness. He was then referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on May 27 after his condition deteriorated. His swab (saliva) was collected and was sent for the examination which came back positive today.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has assigned six security guards, who came in contact with the aforementioned inmate, to home quarantine.


Today, 13 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Jalpaiguri district. All have been admitted to Jalpaiguri COVID Hospital for treatment. On the brighter side, two persons have been discharged from COVID Hospital today.

The officer on special duty for COVID-19 in North Bengal, Dr. Susanta Kumar Roy, said that out of the two discharged patients, one is an Asha Karmi (ICDS worker) and second is a nursing student.
