International Justice Day: Tibetan activists protest in Dharamshala

As the world celebrates International Justice Day today, the Tibetan activists held a candlelight rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala appealing to the international community to ensure the effective delivery of justice and redress the grievances of Tibetans and others.

The Tibetan independence movement is a political movement for the independence of Tibet and the political separation of Tibet from China. The movement, however, is no longer supported by the 14th Dalai Lama, who although having advocated it from 1961 to the late 1970s, proposed a sort of high-level autonomy in 1988. Since then he has restricted his position to either autonomy for the Tibetan people in the Tibet Autonomous Region within China or extending the area of the autonomy to include parts of neighbouring Chinese provinces inhabited by Tibetans.
