Rajganj, 09th August: An Indian youth was allegedly abducted by Bangladeshi nationals while working on his land near the Chaulhati border area of Tasar Mohammad Para under Kukurjan area in Rajganj block. The youth has been identified as Dipankar Gope.
According to local sources, Dipankar went to work on his land in the ‘zero land’ area after passing through the border gate at around 10 am on Saturday. While he was spraying pesticides in his tea garden located beyond the barbed-wire fencing, a group of individuals from Bangladesh allegedly detained him and forcibly took him across the border.
The incident triggered panic among residents in the area.
A possible retaliatory motive has also emerged in connection with an incident reported a few days ago. According to reports, the BSF had detained an elderly Bangladeshi woman after she allegedly crossed into Indian territory. It is being claimed that Dipankar would be released only if the woman is handed back to Bangladesh. However, this claim could not be independently verified.
Locals further claimed that after Dipankar was taken across the border, his family received a video call on his brother’s mobile phone, during which he was allegedly shown to them.
A local resident alleged that some people from Bangladesh took Dipankar away when he went to work on his land. He added that the administration and the BSF are making efforts to bring him back.
Following the incident, personnel from Rajganj Police Station reached the area. Officials from the Chaulhati BSF camp are also monitoring the situation.
Efforts are reportedly underway to establish contact with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and secure Dipankar’s return. If required, the matter may be taken up through a flag meeting between the BSF and BGB.
