Siliguri, 16th September: The Income Tax Department continued its action against tax defaulters, attaching a second property belonging to Siliguri businessman Naresh Verma on Wednesday over income tax dues that have remained unpaid since 2011.
On Wednesday afternoon, a team from the Siliguri Unit of the Income Tax Department reached the Kadamtala area of Champasari. The team pasted a notice regarding the attachment of the property on a four-storey building located along the roadside.
Around two months ago, the Income Tax Department had also attached a plot of more than three bighas of land belonging to Naresh Verma in the Tea Auction Road area of Mallaguri. However, as the outstanding tax was reportedly not paid thereafter, the department has now taken action against his second property.
According to departmental officials, income tax dues against Naresh Verma have remained outstanding since 2011. As per the current assessment, the outstanding amount is more than Rs 4 crore.
Along with attaching the property, the department has given the defaulter a final one-month deadline to clear the outstanding tax dues. Officials stated that if the dues are not paid within the stipulated period, the process of auctioning the attached property may be initiated.
