Siliguri, 25th October: Fire broke out late Saturday night in the Niranjan Nagar area near Ashighar More in Siliguri, completely gutting one vehicle and severely damaging another. The flames also damaged the exterior of a multi-storey building.
According to local sources, the fire first broke out in a parked vehicle before spreading to another vehicle nearby. Loud noises from the vehicles alerted residents, who immediately informed the fire department and the Ashighar police outpost.
Two fire tenders reached the spot and brought the blaze under control after considerable effort. However, by then, one vehicle had been completely gutted, while the other had sustained extensive damage.
The house owner stated that the completely gutted vehicle belonged to his tenant, who had purchased it just six months ago, while the other vehicle belonged to him. He expressed suspicion that the fire might have been started deliberately and alleged that the fire tenders took around one and a half hours to reach the spot.
The house owner has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident. Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
