Siliguri, 17th June: Matigara Police have arrested a man accused of snatching a gold earring from an elderly woman in Siliguri. The stolen ornament has been recovered and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime has also been seized. The arrested accused has been identified as Ronny Roy (22), alias Rana, a resident of Haiderpara in Siliguri.
According to police sources, the incident took place on Tuesday evening at a grocery shop in the Old Matigara area. The accused allegedly entered the shop posing as a customer and engaged the elderly woman shopkeeper in conversation. During the interaction, he suddenly snatched her gold earring and fled the spot on a motorcycle.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Matigara Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Acting swiftly, police tracked down and arrested the accused from the Patiram Jote area later that night.
Police have recovered the stolen gold earring and seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the incident. The accused was produced before a Siliguri court on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.
