Garbage from Sikkim allegedly dumped in Siliguri; environmentalists approach police

Siliguri, 12th November: Garbage reportedly brought from Sikkim has been found dumped in Siliguri, sparking concerns among environmental organizations.


On Tuesday, representatives from several environmental groups submitted a memorandum to the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, requesting action regarding the incident.

According to reports, over the past few days, waste from Sikkim has allegedly been unloaded in an open area in the Nepali Basti locality of Siliguri. On Monday, local residents stopped several trucks transporting the garbage and alerted the police. Officers from the Ambari Outpost subsequently arrived at the scene and seized the vehicles.


Environmentalists have expressed serious concerns over this practice and, on Tuesday, formally submitted a memorandum to the Commissionerate, urging administrative intervention.

They also announced plans to report the issue to the State Pollution Control Board, the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate, and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).
