Rajganj, 27th September: A major road accident occurred at Gandar More traffic point on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway in Rajganj on Sunday afternoon, after a speeding container truck allegedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles, triggering a chain collision involving five vehicles, including a prison van. A motorcycle rider was critically injured in the accident.
According to local sources, the prison van was travelling from Siliguri towards Jalpaiguri court with prisoners onboard. At the time, a car and a motorcycle were waiting at the Gandar More traffic point due to a traffic signal, while a small goods vehicle was entering the traffic point after the signal from the opposite direction turned green.
Eyewitnesses said a container truck approaching from the Siliguri side was travelling at high speed when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck then crashed into the vehicles at the traffic point, resulting in a pile-up involving five vehicles.
