Fire breaks out in NBMCH’s Newborn Care Unit, 56 children evacuated

Siliguri, 18th August: Sensation prevailed after a fire broke out at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward of North Bengal Medical College-Hospital (NBMCH), on Tuesday morning. However, no injuries have been reported so far.


Reportedly, 56 children were evacuated from the ward with the assistance of the nursing staff. Upon receiving the news, the family members rushed to the spot and reported the matter to the fire brigade. However, the hospital staff successfully extinguished the fire before the arrival of the firefighters.

In this context, Hospital Superintendent Dr Kaushik Samajdar stated that the fire might have broken out due to some mechanical problem. He further assured of investigating the matter soon.
