Fire breaks out at NBMCH’s COVID block due to short circuit

Siliguri, 21st May: A fire broke out at the COVID block of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital due to a short circuit, on Friday morning. The incident created a stir in the area.


Reportedly, the fire broke out inside the CCU ward of the block and the patients were immediately shifted to a different ward. The entire ward was covered in smoke due to the blaze. Later the glass of the window was broken to pass out the smoke.

As per the information, the fire was extinguished by the hospital workers before the arrival of the fire brigade. After the incident, all the officials and doctors reached NBMCH and inspected the scene.


NBMCH Dean Sandeep Sengupta said that the CCU caught fire due to a short circuit. Patients were immediately shifted to another ward. The matter is being investigated. Discussions will be held on how to improve the fire fighting system.
