Siliguri, 08th October: The Darjeeling District Committee of DYFI marched to the SDO office in Siliguri with an eight-point set of demands, including the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
DYFI workers and supporters reached the SDO office in a procession and staged a demonstration outside the premises. The protesters alleged that they were not allowed to enter the SDO office, following which they continued their demonstration outside and later submitted a deputation.
The immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar was among the demands raised during the programme. The protesters also demanded that all elections be conducted immediately, along with other demands included in their eight-point charter.
An effigy of Gyanesh Kumar was also burnt in front of the SDO office during the demonstration.
DYFI leaders warned of a larger movement in the coming days if their demands are not fulfilled.
