Siliguri, 08th October: The foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new bus terminus at Paribahan Nagar in Matigara, Siliguri, on Thursday. State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh and Minister of State Anandamay Barman laid the foundation stone for the project.
The new bus terminus will be constructed on around 30% of the land at Paribahan Nagar. The administration expects the new terminus to reduce the pressure of buses across different parts of the city and play an important role in controlling traffic congestion once it becomes operational.
Speaking to reporters after the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Shankar Ghosh and Anandamay Barman said that the existing bus stand at Siliguri Junction will continue to operate for the time being. A decision regarding the Junction bus stand will be taken after the new bus terminus at Paribahan Nagar becomes fully operational.
They also said plans are being considered to ensure that the smaller bus stand near Noukaghat is utilised more effectively and adequately.
