Siliguri, 12th October: Darjeeling District Magistrate S Ponnambalam announced names of Durga Puja organisers who have been awarded in the “Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman-2021″ for the best puja, pandal, idol and COVID-19 awareness. The announcement was made from the SDO office in Siliguri today.
Durga Puja the festival of Bengal has emerged as a different festival since the year 2013, when the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal had introduced the Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman Awards to motivate, acknowledge and duly recognise the best pujas and their creators in urban and rural Bengal. The Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman propounds the idea of encouraging creativity and aesthetics.
Like every year, this year also the Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman was organized by the Department of Information and Culture. A team of 7 people was formed to inspect each puja pandal in the district and subdivision. After this, each of them was distributed into 4 different categories and sent to the DM. Following this, the DM announced the winners.
Today, the Darjeeling District Magistrate informed that this year three clubs from Siliguri have been selected for the award of the “Sera Puja” category. As per the announcement, Siliguri’s Rabindra Sangha, Dadabhai Sporting Club and Sanghashree Club have been awarded for the best puja. The clubs will receive a cash reward of Rs 50,000 along with Sharad Samman.
Furthermore, Siliguri Jatiya Shakti Sangha and Pathagar club received the Sharad Samman in the “Sera Pratima” category in the district. The “Sera mandap” was awasrded to Rathkhola Sporting Club, Swastik Yuvak Sangh, and Subrata Sangha.
Meanwhile, the Rathkhola Naveen Sangh, College Para Puja Committee and Miners Association received the award of “Sera Covid Sachetanata” for spreading COVID-19 awareness.
