District’s frontline workers to receive COVID-19 vaccine soon

Siliguri, 22nd December: Preparations for vaccination have already begun ahead of the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine. Reportedly, the vaccine will be initially given to the frontline workers across the district. The list of COVID-19 warriors has already been prepared by the Darjeeling district administration as per the instructions of the health department.


The list comprises doctors, nurses, police, and health workers. The frontline works will then receive training from the health department to vaccinate the general public.

In this regard, Darjeeling district ADM Sumanta Sahay said that a list of 10,000 warriors has been prepared so far. He maintained that while no guidelines have been issued by the health department so far, the district administration has started arrangements to keep the vaccine at the temperature ranging from -10 to -50 degree Celsius. At first, the vaccine will reach North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and will also be stored in Siliguri district hospital, sub-divisional hospitals, rural hospitals, and primary health centres. He further said the vaccine may arrive in late December or early January.


Reportedly, several vaccine trials are underway. The health department estimates that the vaccine may arrive in late December or early January.
