Rajganj, 10th August: Residents near the Ambari rail gate in Rajganj Block have raised concerns over the prolonged poor condition of a key connecting stretch in the area. Large potholes have developed across the stretch, making daily commuting risky and prompting locals to demand urgent repair work.
According to residents, repeated demands have been made for the repair of the road, but no permanent solution has been implemented so far. The road is considered an important connecting route for the area and provides access to the ‘Bhorer Alo’ tourism centre in Gajoldoba via Ambari rail gate and Cheulibari.
A large number of tourist vehicles, including both small and heavy vehicles, use the road every day. Local residents also depend on the route to travel to schools, health centres, markets, and various government and private institutions.
However, the large potholes in the middle of the road have made commuting difficult and increased the risk of accidents. The situation becomes more dangerous during the monsoon, when rainwater fills the potholes and makes them difficult to spot, particularly at night. Residents claim that accidents, both minor and serious, frequently occur along the stretch.
Despite the issue continuing for a considerable period, locals allege that no effective repair work has been undertaken so far.
Biren Sarkar, a local social worker, said that the section of the road near the Ambari rail gate has been in poor condition for a long time. He highlighted the road’s importance for residents, students, and tourists and said that he would approach the local MLA to seek an early solution to the problem.
