Dengue claims life of one in Siliguri, residents in panic

Siliguri, 14th September: Just when the situation was returning back to normal after a pandemic now the outbreak of dengue has gripped the city. The number of dengue patients is increasing in different wards of Siliguri. The residents of the city are in panic after dengue claimed the life of one person on Tuesday.


The deceased has been identified as Sanjit Roy (48). He lived in a government residence in Siliguri’s Milan Pally area. It is being told that he was suffering from fever for several days and was earlier admitted to the Siliguri District Hospital. He was later shifted to a private hospital for better treatment, where he lost his battle with the disease.

At the same time, on Tuesday evening, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Goutam Deb reached the deceased’s house and talked to the mourning family. He expressed his grief over his demise. The mayor said that it is very unfortunate that a person lost a life due to the disease. Several steps are being taken to combat dengue. He further added that there are a lot of bushes in the housing complex which require maintenance. He said that he will talk to the housing complex department and ask to maintain cleanliness. He also said that the SMC is also paying special attention to cleanliness. The wife of the deceased, Geeta Roy said that the mayor has assured her to be with them. 


According to sources in the health department of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, this is the first dengue death in Siliguri this year. Meanwhile, the number of infected has already crossed 300 and the residents of the city are questioning the role of the SMC.
