Siliguri, 19th April: Two youths have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a delivery boy in an attempt to get biryani for free in Siliguri. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Matigara Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Rohit Karji and Karan Vishwakarma. According to police sources, the delivery boy, who works for an online food delivery service, filed a complaint on Saturday evening detailing the incident.
As per the complaint, the delivery boy had accepted three online orders for biryani and went to the Bhuban Jote area of Matigara to deliver them. Upon arrival, he was allegedly surrounded by the accused, physically assaulted, and robbed of both the food packets and cash before the assailants fled the scene.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the two accused involved in the crime. On Sunday, both were produced before the Siliguri court and have been remanded to police custody for three days.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that the plan was carried out solely to obtain biryani without paying for it. Police have stated that efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.
