Siliguri, 09th October: A vacant house was burgled in broad daylight in the Sishudangi area under Matigara Police Station, with miscreants escaping with gold and silver jewellery and cash worth lakhs of rupees.
According to reports, Akash Sharma lives with his mother, Kiran Sharma, in Sishudangi. On Thursday morning, Akash left for his shop, while his mother locked the house and left for work at around 10 am. The house remained vacant for approximately three to four hours.
During this period, the miscreants allegedly entered the house through the rooftop staircase. They broke the main iron door and the lockers of two cupboards before stealing gold and silver jewellery along with cash.
At around 3:30 pm, Akash returned home but found the main door locked from inside. Suspecting something was wrong, he accessed his rooftop through a neighbour’s house. Upon entering, he found the iron door broken, the lockers of both cupboards damaged and household belongings scattered. The jewellery and cash were missing.
Akash’s mother, Kiran Sharma, said her son is scheduled to get married in around a month and that gold and silver jewellery purchased for the wedding had been kept in the house. She said the thieves fled with the jewellery, cash and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees.
Following the incident, Matigara Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Police are examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the suspects and trace their route of entry and escape.
The daylight burglary has left local residents concerned about security in the area.
